Green Tip of the Week

Green Tip of the Week for 23 January 2012

It’s a New Year, so how about a healthy makeover for your cosmetics.  Avoid paraben-, phthalate-, petroleum-, coal tar-, formaldehyde-, mercury-loaded mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and blush.  Replace them with less hazardous ones.  Some organic cosmetics are pricey, so look at your local drugstore or supermarket for more affordable ones such as Burt’s Bees and Aubrey Organics.

RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING REPORTS DUE FROM CITIES FEBRUARY 17
The Residential Recycling Reports were mailed to city service departments on January 3.  The completed reports are due to the District on February 17.  See the 2011 report forms and the 2011 conversion factors on our website.  For more information, contact Jessica at (216) 443-3728.

3R'S PHOTO CONTEST
We’re kicking off a new contest to replace our Earth Day Poster Contest called 3R's Photo Contest. Instead of crayons, markers and colored pencils, grab a digital camera or cell phone camera and snap a shot of anything related to the 3 R’s: reduce, reuse and recycle.

You might take a photo of a pile of recyclables, a person swapping a toy or game with a friend, or even a pet doing some recycling. Add a clever caption that will encourage others to reduce, reuse or recycle.  More information can be found on the contest page.

RECYCLING CHALLENGE CLOTHING DRIVE

Please join the first year for the Cuyahoga County Project Recycle Clothing Collection Program! The purpose of the program is to educate your students on the importance of reusing and recycling, while supporting Goodwill’s mission of improving the quality of life and employment opportunities for people.  Sign up for the contest by January 21, 2012.
